A Message from Principal Cavanaugh

  • At Cherokee Elementary School, we have an incredibly talented and dedicated staff, along with a rigorous set of curricula incorporating engaging and innovative learning experiences. As a school community, we believe deeply that all students are capable of learning, and we are committed to creating inclusive learning experiences that foster the academic growth and social emotional well-being of each and every Cherokee student. Each day, Cherokee students innovate, take risks, and embody the District’s vision of "learning without limits”.  Cherokee is home to the District’s elementary Mandarin program, which immerses students in Chinese language and culture. Spanish is another wonderful language option for students.

We are very fortunate to have the support of dedicated parents and families. To further enrich our students’ experiences a variety of school-wide events are planned throughout the school year. Many of these wonderful events are made possible because of the generous support of the many families that are actively involved in the Cherokee APT, and help provide generous donations through the Spirit of 67 Foundation.

The Spirit of 67 Foundation provides the funding and resources that make these incredible experiences possible. Please consider donating to the Spirit of 67 Foundation. For detailed information about both of these organizations, please refer to the District 67 website.

I am privileged to partner with staff, students, and families to create a safe, challenging, and nurturing school environment. Together, these groups make Cherokee an outstanding place for students to learn and grow!  I encourage you to use this website to learn more about all of the exciting things happening at Cherokee.  You are welcome to contact me at any time to learn more about what makes Cherokee School such a special place. Your partnership is appreciated and truly valued! Thank you so much!

We are looking forward to a fantastic school year!
